Marugame Uchiwa Fan: SANUKIMONO UCHIWA (Kotoden Train) A Collaboration of Traditional Craftsmanship & Modern Design
A Celebration of Kagawa’s Local Culture, Heritage Craftsmanship, and Modern Design
Handmade in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture—Japan's premier capital of fan-making—the SANUKIMONO UCHIWA represents a striking fusion of centuries-old technique and modern artistic expression.
This special edition features a warm, nostalgic graphic inspired by the iconic "Kotoden" train, created by a local designer based in Kagawa. Beloved as an essential everyday transportation for Kagawa residents, the train motif gives this fan a uniquely local story. From its natural materials to its design, this fan is truly packed with the authentic charm of Kagawa.
100% Master Handcrafting: Entirely handcrafted by nationally certified Traditional Craftsmen (Dentou Kougeishi) in Marugame, preserving authentic artisan heritage.
Kagawa-grown Madake Bamboo Weaving (Ho-ami): High-quality Madake (timber bamboo) from Kagawa Prefecture is used for the bamboo frame. Meticulously woven strand by strand, the bamboo offers both flexibility and durability, fitting comfortably and naturally in your hand.
Locally Inspired Design: Designed by a Kagawa artist, featuring a warmhearted and nostalgically crafted "Kotoden" train motif—a true symbol of everyday life in Kagawa.
