Welcome to SakaYa

Sakaya (酒屋) literally means “sake shop” in Japanese — a place where people gather, not only to buy sake, but to discover it, talk about it, and connect over it. That spirit is at the heart of what we do.

We are dedicated to sharing the true spirit of Japanese sake with the world. Based in Japan, we work closely with breweries across the country through the Furusato Nozei system, a unique program that allows people to support rural communities by donating part of their taxes in exchange for regional gifts such as sake, rice, or seafood. This has given us the opportunity to build personal and trusted relationships with sake brewers throughout Japan.

Our mission is simple: to make authentic sake accessible, while also helping people understand and appreciate its history, culture, and craftsmanship. We believe that sake is more than just a beverage; it is a story of tradition, passion, and dedication passed down through generations.

As sake continues to gain recognition outside of Japan, we want to add something new. By connecting with even the smallest breweries, we can bring rare and original sakes to an international audience. These are bottles that reflect the individuality of their makers and the regions they come from—exclusive, genuine, and full of character.

Through authenticity, accessibility, and education, we strive to open the world of sake to more people, while supporting the brewers who pour their heart into every drop.

We know that sake can feel unfamiliar or even intimidating if you’re new to it. That’s why we make it accessible without losing the richness of its tradition. Whether you're a curious beginner or a seasoned connoisseur, our selections are thoughtfully curated to surprise and delight.

Every box is designed to educate and inspire. Like a miniature guidebook, it includes tasting notes, pairing tips, and the stories behind each brewery — bringing the people and places behind the sake to life. You don’t just drink the sake, you get to know it.

Above all, we believe in connection: between people, between cultures, and between past and present. Each bottle is a bridge — from a quiet village in Japan to your table, from a centuries-old brewery to your next shared toast.

We invite you to start your journey with us — and unlock the world of sake, one sip at a time.
